WUB Law Students Deliver Flood Relief in Noakhali, Highlighting University's Role in Local Policy and Poverty Action

Students in a lecture hall

In a direct response to a devastating climate disaster, students from the Department of Law at the World University of Bangladesh (WUB) organized and executed a flood relief initiative in Noakhali on 25th August 2024. The team distributed essential supplies, including food, clean water, and medicine, to communities who had lost their homes and belongings to the sudden floods.

This intervention demonstrates the university's active participation in implementing immediate, local-level programmes to alleviate a critical dimension of poverty—vulnerability to climate shocks. By mobilizing its law students, WUB not only provided urgent humanitarian aid but also grounded future legal and policy professionals in the on-the-ground realities of climate displacement and social protection. Such direct engagement provides the university with critical, real-world insights into the gaps in existing disaster management and social safety net policies.

This hands-on experience informs WUB's broader role in policy advocacy, enabling it to contribute meaningfully to local and national dialogues on building resilient communities and formulating policies that address the economic and social vulnerabilities which perpetuate poverty in the face of environmental crises.
