Biography
Sumayya Rahman is a
recipient of the prestigious South Asian Foundation (SAF) full scholarship
under the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and
Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS), where she completed her second LL.M. in
International Human Rights Law at the University of Asia Pacific, graduating
First in her cohort. She previously completed an LL.M. from Bangladesh
University of Professionals and an LL.B. from Notre Dame University Bangladesh,
securing First Position (Magna Cum Laude) in her undergraduate studies.
She has presented
research internationally, including at the University of Padova, Italy, where
she delivered a paper on “International Law and the Digital Age: Addressing the
Fragmentation of Democratic Norms Amidst Disinformation Crises.” She also participated
in global academic exchanges, such as the Holy Cross-Roads Project (2020) with
the University of Notre Dame, USA, and earned certification from the
UMSAILS–UAP Spring School 2024 on “Forced Displacement in Modern Society.”
Her teaching and research
interests include civil and criminal law, environmental law, and the
intersection of law with mental health and overall wellbeing.
With a strong commitment
to academia, Sumayya aspires to advance research and teaching that contribute
to justice, sustainable development, and the promotion of mental health and
human dignity through legal frameworks.
